This might be the toughest week of the season so far for those streaming tight-ends. Unfortunately, a lot of the poorer defences against tight-ends are facing some of the better (and higher-owned) options in the league. Outside of a couple of promising looking options, it’s very much a weekend to pray for a touchdown among the streaming players.
All of the options discussed in the article are rostered in less than 50% of Yahoo fantasy leagues. These suggestions are aimed at players in 10-12 team leagues. In shallower leagues there may be better available. In deeper leagues there’s a good chance some of these players will not be available for you.
Luke Musgrave, Green Bay Packers
Rostered in 23 % of Yahoo Leagues
After catching his first touchdown in Week 9 Luke Musgrave followed it up with 2 big catches against the Steelers to record 64 yards on Sunday. Whilst the Green Bay offence hasn’t been firing on all cylinders for a while now and unfortunately it all comes back to Jordan Love who has definitively proved he isn’t the man to replace Aaron Rodgers. Despite that Musgrave has maintained a solid role and put up some serviceable fantasy scores.
This week the Packers face the LA Chargers at Lambeau Field. The Chargers don’t allow a lot of touchdowns to tight ends but they are among the most giving defences in terms of yardage. So, Musgrave should have no issues getting open this week. The question is whether Love can get him the ball accurately enough to make some big plays. The answer, probably enough for a low end TE1 day at least.
Tyler Conklin, New York Jets
Rostered in 11 % of Yahoo Leagues
The Jets offence might be a train wreck in terms of points, but it is managing to provide some reasonable fantasy scores. Garret Wilson is obviously getting his but Tyler Conklin has also been a semi-reliable fantasy option. Conklin has 5+ targets in 6 of 8 games that Zach Wilson has started. There haven’t been any touchdowns for Conklin, but he has topped 50 yards in 5 games this season.
Conklin and the Jets take on the Bills this week in a rematch of week one. In that game the Jets offence was thrown into disarray after losing Aaron Rodgers early on. Conklin caught his only target in that game for just two yards. Since then the Bills have been a pretty middle of the road defence against tight-ends. Conklin should be able to improve significantly on his week one performance.
Other Options
Michael Mayer (10%) might be the best of the rest, but he’s not a comfortable choice. He had 5 targets against the Jets but managed just 19 yards and a touchdown. He has a nice match-up against the Dolphins, but he’s pretty TD dependant.
The target numbers aren’t bad for Chigoziem Okonkwo (26%), but he hasn’t been able to do anything with them all season.
Gerald Everett picked up a knock on Sunday so there could be extra work for Donald Parham Jr (3%)
Tanner Hudson (0%) was the Bengals tight-end to have last week, catching 6 of 7 for 33 yards. There isn’t much more upside than that against the Ravens Thursday night but Hudson has had 12 targets over the last two weeks.
