For most leagues, we’ve made it to the fantasy semi-finals and if you’ve done that whilst streaming tight-ends – very well done! Over the Christmas weekend the schedule is spread out a little more as the Steelers and Bengals play on Saturday and we have 3 Christmas Day games on Monday. Whether your hoping for a spot in the final or battling to avoid the Sacko, there are some solid option out there this week.
All of the options discussed in the article are rostered in less than 50% of Yahoo fantasy leagues. These suggestions are aimed at players in 10-12 team leagues. In shallower leagues there may be better available. In deeper leagues there’s a good chance some of these players will not be available for you.
Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers
Rostered in 10 % of Yahoo Leagues
Tucker Kraft has been a very able replacement for fellow rookie Luke Musgrave. Despite some wobbles in the Green Bay offence as a whole, Kraft has had 6, 4, and 6 targets in last three games and topped 6 PPR points in each of his last 4 games. Kraft has 4 catches in each of his last 2 games and notched his 2nd career touchdown against the Bucs on Sunday.
Up next is a trip to play the Carolina Panthers. On paper it isn’t a good draw for opposing Tight-Ends. Although, they did just gave up 98 yards combined to Kyle Pitts and Jonnu Smith. Kraft’s strong role in the Green Bay offence should give him a solid floor this week. The upside might not be there against the Panthers but, he should keep you in a semi final match-up.
Gerald Everett, LA Chargers
Rostered in 43 % of Yahoo Leagues
After splitting time with Donald Parham all season, Gerald Everett has taken the leading role in the Chargers TE rotation in recent weeks. He’s now running routes on over 2/3rd of dropbacks and has seen healthy target numbers over that time. Despite poor offensive showings and a season ending injury to Just Herbert, Everett has had 4+ catches and 39+ yards in each of the last 4 games. There is a new HC in LA now, but Kellen Moore remains the OC so Everett should have a stable role going forward.
The Chargers play the Buffalo Bills this week, and again it isn’t the greatest match-up for opposing TEs. The Bills don’t give up much in the way of TDs, but they are averaging over 40 yards to the position. It’s unclear whether Keenan Allen will return this week, but him being out would be an obvious benefit to Everett’s target numbers. The Chargers will likely need to throw to keep up with the Bills, so the should be plenty of targets to go around this week.
Chigoziem Okonkwo, Tennessee Titans
Rostered in 34 % of Yahoo Leagues
It’s been a rough season for Okonkwo. After a breakout 2022 season, the Titans tight end has topped 50 yards just once this year. However, he does have 35+ yards each of the last four games and looks to be moving in the right direction. Okonkwo is still without a touchdown on the season, so he’s still not exactly pushing into the TE1 conversation. There was only 36 yards for Okonkwo last time out against Houston. But Titans only threw 26 times so not a huge amount of volume to go around.
This weekend it’s a Christmas Eve trip to Seattle to face the Seahawks. It’s a pretty reasonable match-up on paper against a team allowing over 55 yards a week to the position. However, it’s tough to see Okonkwo breaking his TD duck this week – the Seahawks have allowed just three to tight-ends this year. It’s unclear whether Geno Smith or Drew Lock will play for Seattle, but the Seahawks should be more explosive than the Case Keenum led Texans were. That should translate to more passing volume for Will Levis, and hopefully more targets for Okonkwo.
Other Options
If he’s healthy Hunter Henry (24%) is a great option against Denver this week.
The safety blanket role is still there for Tyler Conklin’s (19%) but with Zach Wilson likely to miss the game with a concussion he’s one to avoid unless Aaron Rodgers makes the strange decision to play in a dead rubber game.
Cade Otton (34%) catch numbers are very up and down, but he can put up decent yardage at time.
Jimmy Graham (0%) is a desperation gamble on a TD. But he’s unlikely to get you much more than 8-10 points if he does get one.
Tanner Hudson (4%) keeps putting up some production despite low snap counts. Ja’Marr Chase looks like he’s going to be out this week, so that snap count could climb.
