This season I’m attempting to play Cap 220 Limited as a DFS game to no success so far. I’ve yet to win anything from SO5 competitions, and haven’t really come close to be honest. I’m also pretty short on cash from my £30 starting budget. Taking into account the floor price of the cards I’m down just under a third so far.

Like last month, I’m going to take a look through what’s worked well and what hasn’t over the last month. We’ll also have a brief look at how the addition of experience, collection and captain bonuses have affected what we need to earn a reward. I’ll also be looking to see if there’s any adjustments I need to make to try and get some rewards over the next month.

The SO5 Results

All in all, a pretty abysmal set of results this month! No card rewards, and the closest I got to one was 73.56 points away.
In every game week I’ve had either a DNP or a player start from the bench. In game week 409 I knew it was a risk. But, I didn’t have time to scout a team that week and opted just to re-use some players I hadn’t sold yet.
The other three weeks are either a failure in scouting or some bad luck with rotation. Probably a bit of both.
There have been some positive scores, but it’s just not enough to overcome the handicap of a DNP or Sub appearance. Before we can worry too much about the good scores, I need to get 5 starters on a consistent basis.
The New Bonus Format
Since game week 409 there have been experience, collection and a 20% captain bonus in Cap 220. These additions obviously have pushed the points need for a reward upwards. The question is whether it makes this strategy unsustainable given I most likely won’t have any collection bonuses or new season cards and probably will have less xp on cards than most.
From the Premiership starting back in game week 397 until the bonuses were introduced we had 5 non-international weekend game weeks. The scored needed to earn a reward ranged from 291 to 301 , 295.6 on average. So my original target of 300 points to earn a reward was about right.
However, since the bonuses were introduced the minimum score needed for a reward has increased to between 324 and 329 points, 327.6 points on average. So, we’re looking at about 30 points on average. We can account for say 12 points on them with the captain assuming we’re averaging 60 points a player. That leaves 18 points to find, or 6% on average across the 5 players. Realistically, I won’t be doing that with bonuses especially considering the common GK will usually have no bonus.
The Gallery
So the results have been terrible, but let’s look through how buying and selling cards is going.

The gallery is starting to look pretty full. I currently have 13 cards that I haven’t managed to move on, the majority of which are priced less than what I paid for them. Significantly so in a few cases. The upcoming internationals will be one aspect of the drop, but I’m definitely running at a loss regardless of the break. With just over £5 in cash on hand, I may need to accept losses or trade some cards with bots to make future line-ups.

As you can guess, there hasn’t been many outgoings from the gallery. Just 5 cards have been moved on in the last month for a mixture of small profits and losses. I definitely want to start moving players on more quickly over the next few weeks and get back to the concept of playing Cap 220 as a Daily Fantasy game.
Lessons Learnt
I’ve missed on at least one player starting in every week this month. Barring a fluke decisive off the bench that kills a line-up every time. I need to make sure I’ve got 5 starters on a week-to-week basis.
Before the bonuses were added to Cap 220 my target was to target 60 points a player to guarantee a card reward. With roughly another 30 points needed to earn a reward I’m going to need to aim a little higher. I won’t have the bonuses to make up that gap, so I think somewhere around 65 raw points per player will be needed for me to hit a card reward.
Going Forwards
The results haven’t been there but I’m going to stick with it for now. September was a bit of a hectic month for me outside of Sorare and my scouting definitely suffered at times. Gameweek 409 was the obvious one with a full team of repeat players, but the same was true throughout really. This month, looks a lot quieter for me, so I’ll be trying to really focus on getting the right players in.
The other key thing I need to do is start moving players quicker. I’m not far away from having to trade players on to get new players in. I’d rather sell for cash where possible – I probably need to accept taking significant losses on some of these cards that aren’t showing any signs of life.
Thanks for reading, we’ll check out how the coming month has gone over the November international break!
