Scottish Premiership GW#409 Capped Mode Preview

This week scoring bonuses come to Capped Mode on Sorare. We have collection, season and experience bonuses applied to every card as well as a 20% captain bonus for a single player. As a result the threshold score to earn some cash has increased to 280 points in Cap 240. This new format is going benefit using stacks to have that collection bonus as well as using new season cards. However, if you can get a big score from your captain I don’t necessarily think you need to move entirely into stacking teams.

In the interest of openness, I do own cards some of the players I’m recommending (you can check out my gallery here) and I will mark them with an asterisk (*). But, I’ll also try and include some players I don’t have. I’m certainly not Nostradamus, as evidenced by my Cap 240 results to date, so I recommend you do your own research when picking up players.

The Games

Livingston-Celtic Livingston have continued to outperform their early season expectations with a draw away to Ross County. Admittedly, one they should probably have lost. It’s hard to see their luck continuing against a Celtic team that took a while to get started, but could have scored more than 3 against Dundee at the weekend. The big question in this one is how much Brendan Rodgers will rotate after a big Champions League match against Feyenoord.

Dundee-Kilmarnock Given the large turnover in the squad, I think it’s been a really encouraging start for Dundee. They haven’t looked over matched for the most part and seem to have goals in them. Kilmarnock started the season brightly, but have struggled in recent weeks. They were a bit fortunate to get a point from Hibs last time out. At home to Killie is certainly a game Dundee should be looking to win if they want to stay in the Premiership and they have a real shot to do it this weekend.

Hibernian-St Johnstone Hibs’ new manager, Nick Montgomery, had a mixed start to life in Edinburgh. His side took a 2-0 lead away to Kilmarnock but their defensive frailties continued as they conceded two in the last half-hour to earn just a point. St Johnstone for their part struggled for large parts of their game against Rangers last week, but did show some threat going forward in the second half. Against a win-less St Johnstone side this is the perfect opportunity for Hibs to get back to winning ways with a clean sheet to boot.

St Mirren-Hearts St Mirren continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 away victory over Motherwell on Sunday. They defended well, but Motherwell certainly deserved one if not all three points on the day. Meanwhile Hearts got back to winning ways against Aberdeen running out comfortable 2-0 winners at Tynecastle. Based on season performances to date, you’d give a clear edge to St Mirren in this one. But now Hearts don’t have Europe to worry about I think it will be close one, most likely a score draw.

Aberdeen-Ross County Aberdeen looked poor against Hearts last weekend and perhaps should have lost by more. It doesn’t get much easier as the face a strong Ross county side following on from a tricky European game against Frankfurt. County we’re unfortunate to drop points last weekend after dominating Livingston for most of the game. In fact, they’ve played well all year losing only to the Old Firm sides. I like Ross County to take something from this game, possibly even a surprise away win!

Rangers-Motherwell As expected Rangers brushed aside St Johnstone with ease last weekend. Although they did lose striker Danilo in the process. They host Real Betis in the week in a really tough game. It doesn’t get a whole lot easier at the weekend either as they face a really good looking Motherwell side. Motherwell might have lost their first game of the season last week, but they definitely didn’t deserve to. They played excellently against St Mirren, but didn’t see the ball fall their way in front of goal. Rangers should still have the edge in this game, but I think it’ll be close and Motherwell could sneak a point.

Goalkeepers

Trevor Carson*, Dundee – It’s not been the best of starts at Dundee for Trevor Carson, at least from a Sorare scoring perspective. Outside of keeping a clean sheet against Hearts, he’s scoring under 35 in the rest of his games. At home to Kilmarnock, Dundee will be hopeful of keeping a clean sheet this weekend. Kilmarnock were the worst Premiership side away from home last season, and have scored once in their two away games this season. Carson isn’t the safest of options, but he’s pretty affordable at 42 points and I’m happy to bet on a clean sheet in this game.

David Marshall, Hibernian – Given how Hibs’ season has gone so far, playing Marshall in goal doesn’t feel like a safe of option either. However, if they’re going to keep a clean sheet, hosting Saint Johnstone is arguably the best match-up to do so all season. Marshall also has the benefit of being really cheap at 34 points against the cap. If Hibs avoid conceding three, which should be all but guaranteed, Marshall can provide some small positive value with AA scoring.

Other Thoughts: Joe Hart* has a good chance at a clean sheet again this weekend and would be worth playing. Both Kelle Roos and Ross Laidlaw could have good games in the Aberdeen-Ross County games. Otherwise I’d steer clear of the Premiership goalkeepers if you can.

Defenders

Josh Reid, Ross County – Josh Reid has started the last two games after signing for Ross County this summer and looked pretty good so far. Reid has put up at least 6 points of AA scoring in each game for his new side and added an assist last weekend. His L15 is at 44 currently, and he has a shot at outscoring that with AA alone. Based on last weeks game, getting the ball into wide areas is the way to attack Aberdeen. So playing out on the wing for Ross County gives him a shot at recording another decisive as well.

Stephen Kingsley, Hearts – Stephen Kingsley is back in at left back for Hearts after Alex Cochrane picked up an injury. He is a pretty expensive option at 48 points, but Kingsley is capable of some monster AA scores on his day. In a close game against St Mirren, this could be another chance for Kingsley to rack up the AA points and provide a good value in capped mode.

Other Thoughts: Joe Shaughnessy* has been excellent since joining Dundee, he should continue to be this week. For Hibs Will Fish is great value at 44 points and has a history of strong AA scoring. At 37 points St Mirren’s Marcus Fraser is a good choice, his L15 is brought down my some poor performances at the end of last season.

Midfielders

Joe Newell*, Hibernian – When Hibs play at home, Joe Newell is generally a good bet for a strong score. He has a great AA floor thanks to being the primary set piece taker which also helps him chip in with some assists. Against St Johnstone, Hibs should control the game from the off giving Newell plenty of opportunities both from open play and set pieces. Newell is a strong bet to outscore his 49 point cost and a great option for your captain this weekend.

Luke McCowan, Dundee – Luke McCowan is another set piece taking midifelder in a strong home match-up. McCowan has been excellent for Dundee so far this season, creating one goal and scoring another in five Premiership games. Against Kilmarnock, the opportunities should be there for McCowan to be involved in more goals and to put up some solid AA scoring to go with it. McCowan costs 45 points against the cap this week and would be another solid option for the captains armband.

Other Thoughts: Yan Dhanda is the star in Ross County’s midfield and worth considering. Alongside Newell, James Jeggo looks set for a strong performance in the Hibs midfield. After missing the game with Feyenoord in midweek I think David Turnbull will start for Celtic, as the penalty taker he’s worth a play.

Forwards

Martin Boyle, Hibernian – Martin Boyle has played pretty well since returning from injury at the start of the season. At 51 points, Boyle isn’t the cheapest option available however a game at home to St Johnstone couldn’t be any better. Boyle has scored 50+ points in 6 of 18 starts this season and with a solid AA floor, chances are he’ll manage at least that again this weekend.

Mikael Mandron, St Mirren – Mikael Mandron has been in and out of the St MIrren starting XI so far this season. I like his chances of starting this weekend and at an L15 of 40 Mandron allows you to spend up at other positions. Mandron typically doesn’t add much in the way of AA scoring, so we will need a decisive for him to provide value. At home to Hearts, there should at least be opportunities for St Mirren.

Other Thoughts: Daizen Maeda* is still great value for Celtic, and has shown some solid AA scores at times this season. If you feel confident they start, the same is true for Rangers’ Cyril Dessers and Sam Lammers. I’d be very wary of rotation at Aberdeen, I’ll be avoiding using Bojan Miovski* this week.

My Cap 240 Line-Up

For the first weekend in the new system, I’ve ignored the bonuses on my players for the most part. I’m just going to use that as a tie-breaker if I have two players I like about the same.

We start off with Trevor Carson in goal at home to Kilmarnock. The potential for a clean sheet is there, and he needs it to put up a strong score for the team. He’s paired with teammate Joe Shaughnessy as the defender. For the most part Shaughnessy has managed strong AA scores for Dundee and should have a good chance to do that again this week.

I’ve gone with two midfielders this week, the two we covered above. I’ve given the captain’s armband to Joe Newell over Luke McCowan. The match-up against St Johnstone is a little bit better and I feel a little more confident Hibs will score multiple times.

Finally, I have Sam Larsson of Antalyaspor in Turkey as my forward. This week they host Samsunspor who have conceded in all 4 of their league games this season. As well as decisive potential, Larsson offers a solid AA floor playing in a central attacking midfield role.

GW #407 Recap

Another week, another failure in Cap 240, this time just under 10 points shy of the 250 mark. Hopefully the new bonuses will lead to a bit more success!

The weekend got off to mixed results. Wendell started on the bench for Porto, but did come on after just 8 mins to give him plenty of time to earn AA points. A bit frustrating that starting the game would have got me over the line.

My two Belgian League players were pretty disappointing as well. Warleson conceded 2 to a newly promoted side. Whilst, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp didn’t do an awful lot in a comfortable Antwerp victory.

Danny Armstrong was the highlight of the side, assisting from a corner as Kilmarnock came back from 2-0 down against Hibs. Daizen Maeda also provided a solid return on his cost, but unfortunately couldn’t find the goal against Dundee.
