The most expensive position to purchase on Sorare are goalkeepers and with changes in starters being pretty rare getting the right one is crucial. Across the Scottish Premiership there are some teams with pretty nailed on starters, but other teams don’t appear to have their starter signed early in the summer.
Hopefully this article will give you an idea of who to trust and who to have doubts with. I will be keeping it up to date as situations change over the summer, but I recommend you do your own research before making any card purchases!

Aberdeen
Under Contract: Dimitar Mitov (31), Ross Doohan (25)
Contracted for 25/26: Dimitar Mitov ()
Kelle Roos was the starter for Aberdeen for most of last season, barring a couple of months out with a hamstring injury around the turn of the year. Joe Lewis got three starts in January but after conceding an abysmal 14 goals was replaced by loan signing, Jay Gorter, until Roos returned.
This year Kelle Roos will be the starter again and also gets some extra midweek utility with Aberdeen guaranteed a spot in the Europa Conference League group stage. Gorter and Lewis have moved on, so new signing Ross Doohan will be the primary back-up this season.
Celtic

Under Contract: Joe Hart (36), Benjamin Siegrist (31), Scott Bain (31)
Joe Hart was the clear number one last season, starting all but 3 games as Celtic completed the domestic treble. After joining from Dundee United in summer 2022, Benjamin Siegrist got a couple of starts in the League Cup before he suffered a nasty calf injury. If he hadn’t had that he may have seen a little more game time in the cup run. Scott Bain got a single start in the penultimate game of the season and shipped 4 goals to Hibs.
Since returning to Celtic Brendan Rodgers has spoke well of current starter Joe Hart. However, there are also reports Celtic are interested in adding a new goalkeeper this summer, but it’s unclear whether that would be to replace Hart immediately or not. Dominic Livakovic of Dinamo Zagreb is one name mentioned who would be a threat to start immediately.
Hart should be the starter again this season, but at 36 he’s obviously not the long term solution. There’s a chance we could see some more game time for Siegrist but I expect it would be mostly in the uncovered domestic cups.

Dundee
Under Contract: Trevor Carson (35), Adam Legzdins (36), Jon McCracken (23)
Trevor Carson joined Dundee just before the start of the season from Saint Mirren. He signed a 3 year contract and will be the nailed on starter for Dundee this season.
Backing him up is Adam Legzdins who played for Dundee last season and Jon McCracken who joined on loan from Norwich. McCracken played the majority of the Viaplay Cup game and looks set to be the second choice at the moment.
Hearts

Under Contract: Zander Clark (30), Craig Gordon (40), Michael McGovern (39)
Craig Gordon was the starter for Hearts last year until he suffered a pretty gruesome leg break on Christmas Eve. Zander Clark took over the starting role and started off strong with 4 clean sheets before the end of January. It was downhill from there though as Clark managed just 1 clean sheet in his remaining 14 games.
Craig Gordon is aiming to play again this season and is hoping to make it to Euro 2024 with Scotland. However, he hasn’t been cleared to train fully yet and is reportedly targeting an October return to action. Michael McGovern has been brought in to back-up Clark in the meantime.
Zander Clark was seen on crutches after pulling out of a friendly game during warm-ups on the 9th July, at this point there’s no confirmation on when he will be available. But he is expected to be fit again to start the season but Gordon to get opportunities during the season. If Clark does miss time, expect McGovern to step in early in the season.

Hibernian
Under Contract: David Marshall (38), Jojo Wollacott (26), Max Boruc (20)
David Marshall played every game for Hibs last season but he did make a a fair few mistakes. This transfer window Hibs have brought in Jojo Wollacott from Charlton (currently card-less on Sorare). He has previously played for manager Lee Johnson at Bristol City and has international experience with Ghana.
Make no mistake, Wollacott is serious competition for the starting role. Marshall is probably still the favourite to start the season in goal, but it’ll be a situation to monitor in the pre-season friendlies. At the moment, I’ll be staying away from buying Marshall (or Wollacott if it was an option) until there’s more clarity on who will be starting.
Max Boruc, the cousin of ex-Celtic keeper Artur Boruc, has also joined the Hibees from Slask Wroclaw. He has got game time with the development squad in preseason and is a definite third-choice this year. A loan move to a lower league side isn’t out of the question either.
Kilmarnock

Under Contract: Kieran O’Hara (27), Will Dennis (22)
Currently Will Dennis is the only senior goalkeeper under contract after joining from Bournemouth on a season-long loan. The Daily Record reported Dennis was signed to compete with Sam Walker at the time. However, Kilmarnock have since brought in Kieran O’Hara on a free transfer. At the point I don’t think we’ll see Walker return to Kilmarnock and there isn’t an obvious landing spot for him in the Premiership at all.
O’Hara has joined on a one year contract after playing for Colchester United in the English League One last season. He’s my favourite to play at the start of the season at least, but I expect Will Dennis to get opportunities during the season. Last year Kilmarnock also had a loanee goalkeeper as competition for he starter. Middlesborough’s Zach Hemming made 10 league starts for Killie, before Walker cemented his starting place after the World Cup. Neither Dennis or O’Hara have cards on Sorare at the moment, so no options to add him before the new season’s cards drop.

Livingston
Under Contract: Shamal George (25), Jack Hamilton (29)
Livingston had a fantastic first half of the season before fading fast in 2023, although relegation wasn’t a serious threat. Shamal George had a decent year in his first season and is the presumptive starter going into the 2023/24 season. However, given Livingston’s financial issues, they could look to cash in on him if a decent offer is received.
Motherwell

Under Contract: Liam Kelly (27), Aston Oxborough (25)
Liam Kelly was ever-present for Motherwell last season and is nailed on to be the starter next season. He will be hoping to build on an excellent end to the season after Motherwell changed managers. He has had a couple of call-ups to the Scotland squad, so an international game or two could be a possibility too.

Rangers
Under Contract: Jack Butland (30), Robby McCrorie (25), Jon McLaughlin (35), Kieran Wright (23)
Allan McGregor was the starter for most of last season and took his total number of appearance for Rangers to over 500. Jon McLaughlin got a few games early in the year, but is unlikely to challenge for a starting role this season.
With McGregor’s contract expiring Rangers wasted no time agreeing the signing of Jack Butland when his contract with Crystal Palace expires. He’ll be the starter next season although he has no cards on Sorare and unless Rangers become licensed there won’t be any coming. I think we could see a move for Robby McCrorie after the Butland signing, either within the Premiership or possibly to the English Championship.
Ross County

Under Contract: Ross Laidlaw (30)
Last years undisputed starter, Ross Laidlaw, is the only senior keeper currently at Ross County and should start again this year. Ross County escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth, over coming a three goal deficit in the play-off finals before Laidlaw made 2 huge saves in the following penalty shoot-out. However, they did finish 6th in 2021/22 so we could see some improved results this year.

St Johnstone
Under Contract: Dimitar Mitov (26), Ross Sinclair (22)
Last year St Johnstone relied on loanee Remi Matthews between the sticks who started the majority of games. Elliot Parish played a few games before he took over as goalkeeper coach in December and failed to make a match day squad from February onwards. Regardless, Parish has now officially left the club whilst Ross Sinclair returns to Perth after spending last season on loan at League 1 Montrose.
Dimitar Mitov has joined expect someone to come in this summer on a free transfer having played for Cambridge United in the English League One for the past 6 years. Mitov has been given the number 1 jersey and is the clear starter heading into the 2023/24 season. Unfortunately, neither have cards on Sorare at the moment.
St Mirren

Under Contract: Peter Urminsky (24), Zach Hemming (23)
Trevor Carson started all but the final game of the season for St Mirren last year as the Paisley side finished in a very impressive 6th place. He kept 10 clean sheets over his 37 league appearances and even had one game for Northern Ireland in the UEFA Nations League.
He signed a two-year extension and looked to be the nailed on starter, but a reported falling out with team management he has moved on to Dundee. Since then, Zach Hemming has arrived in on loan from Middlesborough and started all games in the Viaplay Cup. He should be the starter to begin the season at least.
