NFL DFS Week 8 Recap

This week we entered one line-up into a Bet365 Sunday Redzone competition with a Minnesota Vikings stack. Let’s check out how it performed.

The week got off to a great start with Kirk Cousins running in the opening touchdown against the Cardinals. He went on to throw two of the following 4 Vikings touchdowns to put together a solid week.

Sadly, neither of them went to Justin Jefferson who picked up 98 yards on 6 carries – a bit disappointing by his high standards.

I liked Irv Smith Jr to have a good game against a Cardinals defense giving up plenty to tight-ends. Despite Smith catching all 4 of his targets, Cousins threw a TD to the back-up tight-end on a play-action pass at the goal-line.

Deandre Hopkins came up big this week, and with an ownership of 44% plenty of people identified him as a value play. Hopkins got 12 of 13 targets (!) for 159 and TD. He certainly won’t be as cheap next week!

Jaylen Waddle was another great performer this week. He scored two touchdowns against the awful Lions defense and went for over 100 yards on 8 catches.

Marquise Goodwin sadly wasn’t as good a pick. I mentioned on Twitter I would swap him for Deandre Swift after DK Metcalf was declared active – depressingly I appear to have forgotten to press save after making the change! Goodwin earned 7.3 points whilst Swift would have earned 14.2.

At running back Christian McCaffrey did it all throwing, running and catching touchdowns against the Rams. Like Hopkins, plenty of players identified him as a great value play and again this will be his lowest price of the season I suspect.

On the other hand, Saquon Barkley was not successful despite what appeared to be a fantastic match-up on paper. Despite a solid 20 carries, Barkley managed a mere 53 yards although he did manage a touchdown.

Finally, the Eagles defense had a solid game as expected creating two turnovers against the Steelers and sacking Kenny Pickett a whopping 6 times!

Overall, the team earned 187.34 points, my highest total of the season, but only finished in 633rd place. It was evidently a high scoring week all-round with us coming 27.10 points away from the money.

Final Thoughts

There was mixed results this week – for the most parts our value picks worked out well with three players scoring over 30 points. Unfortunately, the Vikings touchdowns didn’t go to our receivers. Overall, I’m pretty happy with my thinking this week. We’ll go again next week, and hopefully earn a first cash!

We’ll return later in the week to cover some early thoughts on the Week 9 schedule. To make sure you see when the post goes live follow me on twitter @ThinkingFantasy
