Sorare NBA launched last night and after exploring the site and scoring I’ve got some early thought on the scoring, competitions and platform in general. The Platform Overall

First off, the Sorare NBA team have done a great job designing the cards they look fantastic at all rarities. As people have commented on Twitter the difference in player picture quality is huge compared to some of the recent football clubs released – Liverpool being a particularly high profile example. Hopefully with the NBA cards designed now, we will see some improved quality control on new football releases.

During the onboarding process you get to pick one star player for a selection of 5 and are then given a further 19 lower scoring players. Onboarding Process – Pick one star and receive 19 other commons. It would be nice to have a little more choice in the starting roster, especially for players who are familiar with the NBA.

SO5 Competitions and Scoring

With the much smaller player pool than football there was a risk of S05 competitions becoming a case of those who can afford superstars winning week-on-week. The budget cap on competitions is a great way to overcome this issue with players prices based on their last 10 average.

I think this is a much better system than the Specialist competitions in football opening up some alternative line-up building strategies. Do you target a couple of star players and find cheap options to fill in the rest of the line-up or go for a more balanced line-up. Regardless of which build you go for, there a couple of key things to consider when selecting players;

• Finding players with a chance to outscore their last 10 average will be key, whether through a good match-up or an improved situation.
• To win the highest prizes, you will need to have some players with low ownership percentages. Don’t go too far, and ignore the obvious choices entirely – most weeks players like Jokic and Lebron are going to be among the top scorers.

In the NBA a lot of players will have multiple games in the same Sorare game week. Players will earn the highest score they recorded in a game that week, a definite improvement over footballs score for the first match played.
