NFL DFS Week 3 Early Thoughts + Week 2 Recap

In this article, I’ll share my favourite plays in the Bet365 Sunday Redzone Week 3 competition. Afterwards, we’ll run through how our Week 2 line-up performed.

Week 3 Early Thoughts

The Bet365 Sunday Redzone competition covers the 1 pm EST Sunday games only. Teams consist of 9 players (1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 DST) with a total budget of 135M, giving an average per player of 15M. My plays will generally lean towards the cheaper side to allow some stud players to be fitted into a line-up as well.

Quarterbacks
  • Jalen Hurts PHI (@ WAS – 22.0M) – Hurts has been electric to start the season and this week gets a Washington team that has given up over 500 passing yards against two unspectacular teams (DET, JAX). His potential for high value rushes in the Redzone adds extra upside.
  • Matt Ryan IND (v KC – 15.8M) – This one is a much riskier play, but could be a solid contrarian play. Ryan had an awful game against the Jaguars last week, but will have to throw a lot to keep up with the Chiefs. Pittman was out last week, and I would only consider Ryan if he returns to the line-up.
Running Backs
  • Nyheim Hines IND (v KC – 8.5M) – Hines is probably my favourite play of the week. With the Colts throwing to keep up, Hines could eat up targets against a Chiefs team that has given up 10 receptions a game to RBs so far this season.
  • Dalvin Cook MIN (v DET – 19.5M) – Cook will be highly owned this week in a smash spot against the Lions. Detroit has been steam-rolled on the ground through 2 Weeks and hasn’t played a backfield with anywhere near as much talent as Cook.
  • David Montgomery CHI (v HOU – 15.4M) – The Bears have been determined to run the ball so far this season, with Justin Fields attempting just 25 passes. The Texans have struggled to stop the run so far this season, giving up 143.5 yards per game.
Wide Receivers
  • Jakobi Meyers NE (v BAL – 11.9M) – The Ravens are beaten up in the secondary with Marlon Humphrey struggling with a groin injury. Meyers came to life last week with 9 receptions against the Steelers – I would back him to lead the team in targets again this week.
  • Garrett Wilson NYJ (v CIN – 12.2M) – Wilson has quickly established himself as a key part of the high volume Jets passing attack. The Jets are also moving Wilson around the formation to get him favourable match-ups which gives me confidence he will have more opportunities this week against the Bengals.
  • Gabe Davis BUF (@ MIA – 12.4M) – After a great Week 1, Davis missed last weeks thrashing of the Titans with an ankle injury. He has said himself he will be back this week for a great match-up against a Dolphins secondary that was torched by the Ravens last week.
Tight Ends
  • Logan Thomas WAS (v PHI – 8.5M) – Carson Wentz has turned the Commanders into a high volume passing attack so far this season. Thomas has benefited with 5 and 6 targets in his games so far this season.
Defense/Special Teams

Nothing jumps out as a clear value play this week. I will likely lean towards the Bears or Texans in what could be a low scoring game between two poor offenses.

Week 2 Recap

Finally, let’s review how last weeks team performed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a winning week a total of 141.28 left us in 685th place with 351 places paid. 351st scored 157.50, so we were 16.22 short of cashing.

I went with a Raiders stack expecting a high scoring game against the Cardinals. Unfortunately, it didn’t really work out. The Ravens – Dolphins game identified was another game with high scoring potential and was much more successful.

Tyreek Hill was the biggest success of the week, two huge touchdowns led him to a monster 42 point score. On the other hand Jarvis Landry was a bust – after going 7 of 9 for 114 in Week 1 he managed a paltry 4 of 5 for 25 yards.

The Running Backs didn’t fair much better this week. We projected the Bengals to dominate the Cowboys giving Mixon plenty of opportunities. The Cooper Rush led Cowboys took and early lead and clung on for a shock victory. Mixon still got solid volume (19 carries + 4 targets) but simply underperformed. McCaffrey had a disappointing week for a top priced player, failing to find the end zone against the Giants.

Finally, the Saint defense looked like a solid pick heading into the 4th quarter with only 3 points allowed. But from there on the Bucs came to like and scored 17 points to scupper our defense.
